Emilia Cristina Gahan is an undergraduate scholar at the Royal College of Music, tutored by Professor Juliana Koch. Emilia has been recognised as a prominent solo performer, giving solo recitals in the Royal Albert Hall and being featured as one of the top 15 teenage musicians across the UK in BBC Young Musician 2024. Emilia is currently supported by the Hattori Foundation as a Junior Artist.
During her time at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, Emilia performed in many competitions. She won the 2023 Peter Morrison Concerto Competition with her performance of Strauss’s Oboe Concerto and was commended as a finalist in the Gordon Turner Competition. Outside of the RCM, she was also awarded first place and the Virtuoso Prize for Woodwind and Brass at the New Talent Music Festival. Emilia hopes to compete in the 2025 Aeolus Wind Competition in Germany in September.
Emilia has benefitted from masterclasses with renowned international oboists, such as Nicholas Daniel, Nick Deutch and Olivier Stankiewicz. Her passion for performance extends beyond the oboe, as she has expanded her musical exploration through studies in voice and conducting. This has led her to perform at prestigious venues such as Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall and the BBC Proms.
Emilia is eager to continue developing her artistry as a chamber musician, academic and soloist as she enters conservatoire in September.
